Who We Are and What We Do

Welcome to the City of Sierra Vista's Department of Public Works!  The Public Works Department is, without a doubt, one of the most diverse Departments in the City's organization.  Our responsibilities are some of the most important in terms of our impact (as a support Department) on virtually every other City Department, as well as the general public.  We strive to provide quality and professional public services to the citizens of Sierra Vista, in a manner that exemplifies the Department's motto:  "Pride in Service."  The roughly 125 full-time and part-time men and women who work in the Public Works Department mirror the Department's six values:  Honesty, Integrity, Loyalty, Pride, Customer Service, and Employee Respect.

The Department's vision is to exemplify success through continual innovation, dedication of service, and by striving for excellence in all areas relating to customer satisfaction, asset preservation, and community quality of life, while minimizing operational expenses.

The Department consists of three (3) major "functional" divisions:

• The Engineering Services & Streets Division is responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and construction of the City's streets, sewers, drainage ways, and public buildings/facilities. This Division also reviews all private developments and subdivisions to make sure that public infrastructure improvements comply with City development codes. The Engineering Division is also responsible for the Streets/Traffic Services Section, which provides maintenance of the City's street system and traffic signals.
• The Operational Services Division consists of the Maintenance Services, Environmental Services, and Transportation Services Groups.   The Maintenance Services Group is responsible for City buildings, and the City's fleet and equipment. The Environmental Services Group is responsible for sanitary sewer system; City owned water wells; garbage collection; sewerage treatment and recharge facility.   The Public Transportation Services Group is responsible for overseeing the operations of the City's Public Transportation System, "Vista Transit," and the activities at the Sierra Vista Municipal Airport.
• The Administrative Services Division provides managerial oversight for the Department.  In addition, the Department provides staff liaison services to the Airport Commission, the Environmental Affairs Commission, the Transit Advisory Committee, and the Traffic Safety Committee.
