After two terms on the Sierra Vista City Council, Bob Strain was elected Mayor in November 2006

A Sierra Vista resident since January 1988, Bob has worked with a number of community organizations. He is a past president of the Economic Development Foundation (EDF) and is the 7-year Chairman of the Advisory Commission of the Upper San Pedro Partnership.

Born in Illinois in 1933, Bob grew up in several Midwestern and Southeastern states. After high school, he attended the University of Michigan for two years before entering the United States Air Force in January 1954. Over the years, he earned a bachelor's degree in economics and an advanced degree in business administration.

Bob served 30 years in the Air Force as a navigator, pilot, staff officer, and commander, retiring in June 1984 at the rank of colonel. After leaving the service, he was employed in Washington, D.C., and later, Sierra Vista, as a computer systems analyst, program manager, and manager of information systems with Planning Research Corporation (PRC) and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). He retired from SAIC in June 1998.

Bob was an associate instructor of economics at Cochise Community College for eight years. He is a member of the Sierra Vista Chamber of Commerce, the Fort Huachuca 50, and the Sierra Vista Rotary Club. He is a graduate of the Sierra Vista Police Department's Citizens' Police Academy (CPA) and a member of the CPA Association. He has been a certified arbitrator and mediator with the Cochise County Superior Court.

Bob and Jane Livingston were married in March 1999. Jane is an elected member of the Cochise College Governing Board and is a teacher at Western International University. She has been a certified arbitrator, and instructor mediator with the Cochise County Superior Court. She is a member of Arizona's Appellate Court Commission and on the Governance and By-Laws Subcommittee of the Association of Community College Trustees.
