Economic Recovery Your Guide to Federal Stimulus Funds
The American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 was signed into law February 17, 2009 and provides $787 billion in tax cuts and spending to jumpstart the economy and build the foundation for long-term economic growth.
The Act funds investments in many programs. Nearly $355 billion will be spent on upgrades to transportation, infrastructure, construction, health care programs, education, housing assistance and energy efficiency projects. Another $144 billion will be spent on providing state and local fiscal relief and $288 billion will go towards personal and business tax credits.
The City of Sierra Vista is seeking recovery dollars directly through established federal programs that received additional funding as well as through competitive grants available from the state and federal government. The Mayor and City Council are working closely with City staff to pursue competitive grant opportunities, although in some cases we are awaiting specific information from the state and federal governments regarding eligibility criteria, funding amounts and deadlines.
The City is committed to obtaining as many benefits from ARRA as possible for the residents of Sierra Vista and will update this site as additional funds are awarded.
How Much Funding Will The City Receive?
The City may receive funds through three channels: direct formula funding from the federal government, competitive grants from the federal government and competitive grants from the State of Arizona (using the funds they received from ARRA). The total amount the City will receive is unknown at this time.
Funding from ARRA will be used primarily for a variety of capital, maintenance, and infrastructure projects throughout the City of Sierra Vista. The City will continue work to efficiently allocate resources from ARRA so that funded projects and initiatives have the greatest positive impact on our community.
